Buying a new carpet is a very expensive investment. Carpeting an average sized house could already cost thousands of dollars. Aside from having to spend a fortune, a project like this can be time consuming.
You have to choose the perfect kind of carpet for each room or area, the right colour, the right design and the right material. You will also have to spend some time to ensure that your carpet will last. Here are some tips and tricks that you can do in order to make your carpet last longer.
One of the most important things, if not the most important thing, to do is to make sure that your carpet will last the test of time by cleaning it regularly with a vacuum cleaner. While vacuuming is the number one way to make your carpet last longer, it is probably the most neglected. If you regularly vacuum your carpet, you are able to remove harmful soil and dirt on your carpet. Soil and dirt can slowly wear down your carpet through time by abrading the carpet fibres each time weight is placed on it. Try to vacuum your carpet regularly.
Another way to lessen the damage done to your carpet and increase its life span is to make use of welcome mats or entry rugs at strategic places. By doing so, you prevent dirt and soil from getting to your carpet because they are left on the entry rug. Remember to place them around the carpet and on hard flooring, not on the edge of the actual carpet to make sure no excess dirt is put on your carpet.
It is also recommended that you rearrange your furniture from time to time. A steady, heavy weight on one part of the carpet can result in serious damage to your carpet. By moving around the furniture, you prevent this from happening plus you rotate the flow of traffic through the carpet. Less flow on a single area means a longer life.
Last, but not the least, clean your carpet often. Aside from just vacuuming it, you should also try shampooing it once in a while. Use specialized solutions to remove any stain.
These little things can make a huge difference in prolonging the life of your carpet.
