Types of Microsoft Access Passwords: There are 2 types of passwords in MS Access, which are as follows:

Database passwords: This password is used in MS Access version 95 and later versions. Database passwords are also sometimes referred to as share-level passwords. They were introduced with MS Access version 95. Database passwords are not there in Microsoft Access version 2.0. The database password is stored in the databases. Even though this password is encrypted, but it can be extracted and decrypted quickly if the database is in MS Access version 2003 or any older format.

User passwords: This password is used in MS Access version 2003 and earlier versions. User passwords are not there in Microsoft Access version 2007. User passwords are mainly there in all MS Access versions. In user-level password security system, you are authenticated on the start of MS Access application to log on with your password. You need to enter both, user name and password. Different users can have different permissions on similar objects. Permissions can be given to some particular user or to a complete group of users. One single system database can be shared among different databases and applications. In Microsoft Access version 2007, the security model is redesigned and user passwords have been removed totally.
