An important benefit that you get when you build a solar panel for your home is that you may decrease your electricity costs by a large amount or you may even wean yourself from your dependence on your utility. Moreover, because you will be decreasing your consumption of electric power provided by the utilities, you will also be contributing to the environmental protection initiative. This is because solar power is a renewable source of energy and does not depend on the usual methods of producing electricity. And constructing your own homemade solar panel is easy to do and can even be fun and exciting.
It is common knowledge that a home solar panel is located on the roof but those whose residences are found in the northern hemisphere also have to know that the panels should be facing south to make the most of the sun's rays. Meanwhile, those people whose homes are found in the southern hemisphere will have to position their solar panels the other way around.
For a build solar panel project, some of the tools needed are Rosin flux pen, saw, plywood, paint brush, screw driver, soldering iron gun, caulking gun, volt meter, volt meter, Plexiglas cutters, drill, and wire cutters. The various components that you will require are the solar cells, silicon caulk, tin wire, plywood sheeting, solder, and Plexiglas.
When you want to build a solar panel for your home, it is also important to remember that you will need 80 cells to generate 100 watts of electricity. Therefore, if you need at 1 kilowatt or 1,000 watts, you will have to purchase 800 solar cells. You will also have to check the voltage output of each of those solar cells. However, before you could do the computations for the number of solar cells needed, you will first have to compute the total power that you desire for the solar cells to produce.
The next step to take after calculating the number of solar cells to be used when you build a solar panel is to determine the total area of all of the cells and then cut the plywood such that it has enough area to handle the needed total area of the solar cells. The next step is to apply the varnish on the plywood for ultraviolet protection. The next step is to attach the cells to the plywood by applying some silicon caulk and then cover the cells with Plexiglas. The assemblage will then have to be protected from moisture and this can be done by applying silicon caulk.
