Keeping Silk Curtains Looking Great
There is no denying that silk curtains can create a sense of charm and sophistication to a home. When you hang silk curtains you are creating a sense of elegance that cannot be matched. They also look wonderful in living rooms and bedrooms.
Even though they may create a great atmosphere for your home, many people avoid them because they do not know how to care for them properly. But, if you follow these few simply steps and remember a few key things, you will find that having silk curtains can be amazing.
1.) Try to hand wash them if you can. While this may be a really big chore for you, you will be glad that you did. Even though some silk curtains can be placed in the washer, it is not always the best thing to do because their colors may change or they may shrink. Therefore, washing them by hand is always recommended.
2.) Do not twist them to wring out the water. Rather, lay them flat and let them air dry. This will cut down on wrinkles that you may need to take care of later on.
3.) If you do have wrinkles that you need to take care of then you can run an iron over them. Do this on the inside of the curtain and be sure that the iron is on really low heat. You do not want to steam the curtains because you can cause them do shrink and you may even create watermarks that cannot be removed.
4.) Keep your curtains from fading from the sun by placing some type of a sheer curtain behind them. This will help keep your curtains from turning colors and fading from the sun.
As you can see, it really is not that difficult to care for silk curtains but it might take a little bit of extra time. When you are able to hand wash them you will be helping them last longer and you will keep them clean and beautiful so they look great in any room.
