The software used for the Epson Perfection 4990 Pro are the Lasersoft Imaging SilverFast SE 6.0, which is a lighter version of SilverFast AI. It also makes use of Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and software for optical character recognition. And every Epson scanner comes with Epson's own scanning software. The software included is the good quality but expect to work with various interfaces because they were designed by different manufacturers. Some features of the Epson scan software can also be found in Silverfast SE which might bring about some confusion when use it for the first time.

But it's very easy to learn to work with the various features of the Epson Perfection 4990 Pro.
