The body kit market has grown leading to specialization and diversification. There are several materials which producers are using to manufacture body kits, aerodynamics, ground effects and other car exterior styling accessories. It is up to you to choose which material is best suited for your needs depending on the work that you want to be done on your car. It is very important to choose what is right for you as it can affect the performance of your car and you do not want to be wasting your money.

ABS Plastic, Polyurethane, Carbon Fiber and Fiberglass are the five main types of materials used in the manufacture of body kits. Each has its own unique characteristics. ABS Plastic is infused with chemicals and is rigid. Carbon Fiber is light in weight but is rigid and expensive. Fiberglass is the most common as it is light weight, easily available and inexpensive.

Even though Fiberglass is the most commonly used it does have its own set of draw backs. This lead people to look for an alternate and thus came polyurethane body kits. Polyurethane is made up of a rubber/plastic type of material. This allows it to be flexible and durable which were the two important drawbacks of Fiberglass. This gives it the upper edge in the market for the production of body kits as it can withstand impacts better and is also easier to install.

As stated earlier, polyurethane is much more resilient which makes it preferable in harsh conditions like in areas prone to storms or if you enjoy trail blazing and off road travel. Urethane body kits also weigh lesser even though they tend to be thicker than Fiberglass kits. As these kits are more pliable they are easier to install as they can be bent into shape and fixed onto the body of the car. This eliminates the hassles of cutting and saves time. On the other hand, fiberglass has to be altered with much effort.

Even tough the polyurethane body kits cost more; they make for better buys in the long run. This is because the material used is sure to outlive its counter parts. It also ensures high standards of quality and will provide your car with a new and satisfying look.
