Are you planning on traveling to Miami? If you are, then you will most likely be flying into Miami International Airport, and unless someone is meeting your flight, you'll need some form of transport to get you to wherever it is that you are going. Whether your final destination is downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or even Orlando, there is a wide range of Miami airport transportation options available to you.
Taxis are the fastest and most convenient way of getting from the airport to your destination and back again. You can find them outside of the lower arrivals level. If there are none waiting when you arrive, just contact the dispatcher that you will find outside of every concourse.
Your next best option is the Super Shuttle. The Super Shuttle picks up several passengers at a time. Its fares are per person, and are based on the distance that you will be traveling. Because most of the people that you will be sharing the ride with are probably not be going to the same place as you, it can take a little extra time to get to where you are going. So just take the weight off your feet, and enjoy the ride. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
If you are going directly to your hotel, it is worth verifying if it offers an airport shuttle service. The hotel shuttles are located outside of the upper departure area.
A number of companies provide private car and limousine rentals. In addition to offering cars to suit every taste and budget, their service comes complete with chauffeurs who will meet your flight, and drive you to your destination. This is an excellent alternative for those travelers continuing on to out of the way places, who don't drive or are unable to rent a car.
More adventurous travelers, or those on a limited budget, may prefer using public transportation. There is a Metrobus stop outside concourse E, across from Customs. A night service called Airport Owl runs from 11:50PM to 5:40AM.
Travelers heading to Miami Beach can take the Airport Flyer, a relatively new express bus, which runs between Miami International Airport and Miami Beach. The service operates daily between 6AM and 11PM, with buses departing every 30 minutes. Passengers wanting to head downtown can take it as far as the Earlington Heights Metrorail station, where it makes a stop, and then take the train from there.
For those travelers continuing on to Fort Lauderdale or Palm Beach, there is the Tri-Rail commuter train. The station is located just east of Miami International Airport. Metrobus offers Tri-Rail ticket holders free shuttle service to and from the airport.
With the completion of the new Rental Car Center, car rental companies will no longer have desks inside of the airport. All of the rental firms that previously had their desks there, as well as many with locations nearby, are being moved into it. For the time being, a shuttle service will be provided to transport customers from the airport terminals to the new center. A light-rail system, called the MIA Mover, is under currently under construction and will provide a permanent link between Miami International and the RCC in the future.
Miami International Airport is a large, busy, and sometimes confusing place. If you need help finding the location that your Miami airport transportation departs from, airport personnel are always there to provide assistance. Do not hesitate to ask.
