Graduates of a nursing assistant program enjoy job security as well as a flexible schedule. Unlike many industries, the medical field is actually thriving in this difficult economy. There's a shortage of nursing assistants to meet the growing health care needs of an aging population. Nursing assistants provide direct patient care in long term care facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, clinics and private residences. A nursing assistant program degree can lead to other areas of medicine, such as labor and delivery, pediatrics and geriatrics.
Nursing assistants maintain patient hygiene and support doctors and nurses in diagnostic procedures and technical treatments. They assist in patient charting, direction and consultation. In a licensed nursing assistant program, they learn to document all care that is given and what observations are important to report to nursing and doctoral staff. As a nursing assistant you will help patients in many daily care activities and be a vital role of the health care component.
Program Description
A nursing assistant program teaches instruction on a broad range of topics such as infection control, communication and interpersonal skills, safety and emergency procedures, personal care skills, basic restorative services and skills, basic nursing skills, psychological needs and quality improvement.
Program Length and Salary Ranges
You can usually complete nursing assistant program in five to six weeks. Salaries for nursing assistants vary depending on the type of facility and the location. Hospitals, mental health care facilities and private homes are some of the facilities most in need of nursing assistants. Self-employed and contracting nursing assistants generally enjoy a higher rate of pay, but the work might not be as consistent.
Like many other health care jobs, nursing assistants will see a growing job demand in their career fields as the population ages and the need for health care services increases. At the same time, many in the nursing assistant field are also retiring, creating more job openings. All employments in health care are expected to enjoy a 28 percent job growth rate in the next decade.
Tuition Payment Options
Look into the financial aid possibilities for a nursing assistant program. Some long-term care facilities, retirement homes and nursing centers offer tuition payment in exchange for specified job tenure. As education tuitions continue to increase, tuition reimbursement plans are a great alternative to traditional financial aid.
Portability
As a nursing assistant, you can work anywhere. You can move state to state and work in any city or region, as health care needs are universal. Almost every city in the country has a critical need for certified nurses. Complete a program and you are guaranteed a job in whatever city you decide to live.
Consider enrolling in a nursing assistant program and enjoying a bright career where they are always hiring. In this economy, job availability is an important consideration. Be a nurse, and they'll always be hiring.
