The wedding ring is the most significant of all items used in a wedding; it holds the most importance in the marriage ceremony. This ring is not just any ordinary item used in wedding; it unites two different souls and creates a bonding between them. Use of wedding rings is not a new ritual in wedding; it started thousands of years ago and is prevalent till now all over the world. It is regarded the same way now, as it was done at the beginning of the usage. People used to believe that this wedding ring holds sacred powers which creates a bonding between the man and the woman and keeps them together for the rest of their life. Due to this, people used to wear this ring on the 4th finger of the hand; as they believed that the fourth finger contains the vein of love which runs straight to the heart. Wearing the ring on this finger linked the partner’s soul directly with the heart. People generally do not believe in this nowadays, but they wear the ring in this finger as a tradition.
The rings those were used previously at the beginning of this ritual were made of hay or leaves; later the construction material of wedding rings changed gradually. Nowadays, people mainly use gold or platinum for making their wedding rings. Both of these metals are precious and rare, due to which they are very expensive. Gold has been used as a jewelry making metal for a long time, but the use of platinum started a lot later. Platinum was discovered by the Spanish people hundreds of years ago, but at that time they were unable to make any use of it as they did not have proper technology. However, at that time platinum did not get any importance as people used mistake it as silver; even the name platinum came from "platina", which means partly silver. However, platinum is better than silver in every aspect; although their colors are quite similar, platinum is much stronger than silver.
Platinum and gold are famous mainly because of their metallic luster and strength. Platinum is one of the hardest metal, and it does not generally lose its metallic luster. Because of this people use it to make jewelry. However, platinum is very expensive and common people cannot afford platinum jewelry. Platinum and wedding rings have got a deep similarity; wedding rings are very important in any married person’s life. Because of the sentiment involved with a wedding ring, people always want to buy the best wedding ring for the partner. They often do not keep in mind the cost of the ring and want to gift the most precious ring to the most important person of their life. Since, platinum is very precious, people opt for wedding rings made of platinum most of the time. It is as if the platinum wedding bands are the most suitable ones for their very special wedding partners on the most memorable day of the life
Wedding rings are the most important part of a person’s wedding; this wedding ring forms the bond between the husband and the wife as long as they are alive. The ritual of using wedding bands for both men and women started a long time ago.
