The time has finally come to build your dream home. You have a wide number of options no matter what your budget. In fact, you have so many options that it may become difficult to choose just a few. There are, however, some unique elements that should be included in any custom home.
Interior doors present a wonderful opportunity for expressing creativity. There is no reason to be limited to plain, blank white or cream doors with the standard cheap knobs. French doors with glass and iron workings would make a great transition from the kitchen to the dining room. A beautiful dark wooded door with a matching frame is the perfect introduction to an elegant bedroom. Children will appreciate a kitchen pantry door covered with magnetic paint- what better place is there to show off school assignments? Doors should not be underestimated or thought 'boring' when detailing a custom house.
Another way to liven up a property is to include a natural pool. Swimming pools have long been a part of the custom home. The way to stand out is to go French and create a natural pool that is regulated not by chlorine or salt water, but by a system of natural reed filters and fish that sort out any impurities. Natural pools are safe for the family to swim in, are more energy efficient and blend beautifully into nature. Besides some occasional topping off, the pool never needs to be refilled and requires the barest maintenance once it is set up.
Having a technologically "smart" custom home is a final necessity. Systems that control everything from light ambiance to air conditioning or heating temperatures are at last becoming efficient and affordable. Smart homes can include monitored security applications, internet, cable and audio controls. Anything electronic can be controlled and given automatic settings. For example, the lights could be made to turn on to deter burglars when the family is on vacation. A custom song could begin to play as an alarm clock in the morning.
The possibilities are limitless when it comes to building a custom home. Each tip above will hopefully get you started on choosing which options work for you and your unique project.
