Portable Air Conditioning Saves Lives

It sounds like such a simple thing but portable air conditioning units really can save lives. Many buildings become extremely hot especially on the upper levels during the summer months. The heat in these upper units can become excruciating especially on hot summer days when the temperature in these upper level rooms can hit up around one hundred and thirty degrees or more. Structures with black tar roofs and those with tin roofs are particularly prone to excruciatingly high temperatures and these temperatures can be deadly.
There are many regions of the country that require units to provide either portable air conditioning units or central air to their residents. Unfortunately, there are many people who are living in poorer regions who can not afford to pay for air conditioning and these individuals are potentially at risk of death.
Especially susceptible to illness and death are the elderly, the sick, infants and children and many of these people can be helped by purchasing portable units especially in upper level units. Even just one small window unit can be enough to cool the temperatures in these hot boxes making them more tolerable dwellings to live in and creating a safer environment for all family members.
Unfortunately, many individuals don't realize how inexpensive and affordable portable air units truly are. A small window unit can be purchased at a local hardware store for under $100. In most cases those who are renting an apartment or town home may be able to get the housing unit to pay part or all of the cost. Units can even be purchased through online sales, yard sales and through local classified ads. Even when purchasing a used unit as long as it works and it is tested prior to being purchased it can still be quite effective in cooling down the excessive heat in an upstairs unit.
In any situation with older or younger family members, it is imperative to consider and make sure that there is a thermostat in place. While an air conditioner is the most effective way to cool off a living space the temperature should be constantly monitored to ensure the safety of all the occupants. It will take much less heat to overwhelm an infant, young child or elderly family member and allowing them to spend too much time in the excessive heat can cause them to suffer from heat stroke and die. Temperatures in excess of 100 degrees Fahrenheit can be deadly and can cause heat stroke in death within a matter of minutes.
