Duct Cleaning
When thinking about Duct Cleaning think about your Calgary Furnace Repair Shop. Cleaning your Ducts may help you keep from hearing those words "Furnace Replacement"
Why do you need to clean your Ducts? Well, dirt and dust collect over time in your ducts especially in the return air duct. This is the duct that pulls the cold air out of the rooms and returns it to the furnace to be re-heated and returned back into your house. The air that flows through the return air duct moves very slowly so more dirt and dust is able to settle in there. In the heating ducts the air is moved much more quickly through there so there is little time for the dirt or dust to settle in those ducts. The air that is pushed through the heating ducts is also filtered before it is heated and blown so there is a good chance there is not much dirt or dust in those ducts.
What does duct cleaning do and what doesn't it do? It does remove the dirt, dust, and hair that settles inside the ducts over time. You and your pets loose hair all the time and some of it gets sucked into the ducts to settle and or get blown back around into the house.
It does not improve the quality of the air you breathe. There has been no study that has found a duct cleaning to have improved the air quality in a home. It also does not affect the airflow or improve your heating costs.
It simply cleans the dirt and dust out of the ducts that builds up over time.
When does it make sense to clean your ducts?
If you've had a problem with a leak or and some of your ducts may have gotten water in them. First repair the leak then get your ducts cleaned. This will ensure that you won't have a problem with rust or mold growing in your ducts.
If you have a newly constructed home or you've done some major renovations in the house and you've had a lot of drywall and construction dust flying around. You will want to get your ducts cleaned. This will remove all that dust that was created during the construction.
If you have airflow problems and you see one of your heating vents not moving as much air as others. You can get a duct cleaner to view through the duct and see where the blockage is. You may have had a toy or cup put down the vent without knowing and it could be blocking the air. It is less expensive to have a duct cleaner out than to replace all the ducts and find it was only a toy or cup that was the culprit.
When you look in the return air duct you may see a lot of dirt or dust build up in the duct. One thing you can do is with your vacuum hose clean up as much as you can see. There is a good chance that you will be able to get up most of it.
