The season that family and friends visit has arrived. We can wait for them to come and spend a few days with us in our home; to catch up, share some laughs, and remember the old days and hopefully make some new memories. We love these special people, and because we only see them during the holiday season, we want to make them feel welcome and comfortable in our homes. So, let's fix the guest room before they get here.
If your guest room needs some major work, you got a few weeks, so roll up your sleeves and get it done.
Start from the selling and work your way down. Does it need a fresh coat of paint? If you have flat ceiling, you can do metallic silver or gold, even a light blue sky with a few clouds won't be bad. If you are going to do the ceiling, then do the walls as well. I want you to try different things like maroon, or dark green, instead of the boring white walls.
Put a new light fixture. The market is full of variety of fixtures at low prices. Make sure to install it with a dimmer switch. A room is much more inviting, when the light is dimmed, looks and smell great when the guests arrive. Don't forget to place a holiday scented candles by the mirror.
Wash your curtains or even get new ones if your budget allows. You might want to wipe of the windows on the inside to rid of that old dust that has accumulated and it invisible to the naked eye.
Now, we get to the bed, the most important object in the room. Finally, my favorite part! It's time to dress the bed. You don't have to go overboard; you can keep it nice and simple. If the time for new bedding has come, buy good quality linens in natural colors like beige, grey, or white. You don't have to buy new comforters. Instead, I would either wash or dry clean the comforter, and buy a few comforter sets or duvet covers for it. Depending on where you live put a blanket along with the comforter, at the end of the bed ready for the those cold nights.
Place a few reading books on the shelf and a good light. Also, leave a bowl of fresh apples in case someone gets hungry at the middle of the night, but it doesn't feel comfortable going to the kitchen. I know that from experience!
Make sure there is room for the luggage, plenty of hangers in the closet and some fresh bath towels. Put a nice photo of you and the guest on the dresser. That will really make them welcome!
You can get it all done in a few days and won't cost you a fortune. Depending on the current sate of the guest room and your budget, you are looking at between $300 - $1000.
Well, you are now ready for your guests. Have a fun holiday visit!
