Dunedin heat pump installation: what does it entail?
So, you have found an accredited heat pump installer, and picked the heat pump that you wish to have installed. The next step is to set a date with your installer to have your heat pump installed.
Before this happens you will need clear a space so there are no hazards for the installers to work around. Usually you will have a minimum of 2 workers come to install your heat pump, and an electrician to wire everything up to your mains fuse box.
Firstly the workers will install the out door unit, laying a concrete pad if need be or attaching it to the side of your house.
Secondly they will run the pipes from the outdoor unit up the outside wall, now if your install is a back to back (meaning that your indoor unit and out door unit are on the same wall) the pipes will go into the wall on the outside and be pulled through the wall to meet up with the indoor unit, the condensation that pools when using the air conditioning will drain onto your garden. If the indoor unit is to be placed on an interior wall, the pipes will run through the roof for a Hi-Wall unit, or under the floor for a floor model, and down the interior wall to meet up and be connected with the indoor unit. Also if the indoor unit is to be place on an interior wall a condensate pump will be attached to the pipes to pump the condensation that pools in the bottom of the unit when using the air conditioning instead of heat, up the wall and down into your garden outside by the outdoor unit.
Once the installers have cut a hole in your wall they will run the wires up into the ceiling to be attached to your mains fuse box. They will also attach the pipes to the indoor unit before fixing the indoor unit to your wall, or floor. This is where the electrician comes in. They attach all the wiring to your mains fuse box and label the new fuse with HP so you know which one it is.
The last thing that will be done is for the installers to gas up your unit so it is able to run.
An easy back to back install will generally take 4 hours start to finish. A harder install on an interior wall will take up to (but shouldn't be any longer than) 6 hours.
A good installer will clean up after themselves and run your new heat pump to ensure it has been installed and working properly.
All there is to do now is sit back and relax warm and cosy in your home.
