Follow the tips and become an awesome virtual assistant loved by your boss and co-workers

Based on my experience, I have listed the things I keep in mind while working for RemoteWorkmate.com. As I observed, these were to give you some fair idea of what clients look for in a virtual assistant. By doing these, I am pretty much sure your boss will love you as well as your co-workers. I know it is hard for beginners but effort and knowledge with the right values or characteristics will make you good at it.

PROACTIVE COMMUNICATION

Given that client and VA interaction is mostly done online (commonly with outsourcing company), communication must be your top priority. A good English skills, is unquestionably one of the most important skill that a VA should have. VA’s should treat language ability as their main asset that they should always polish.

Communication should NEVER fail in this industry because if you do, expect work stoppage. Update your daily task, ask questions, and follow up project’s progress on client. If possible, think of a way how you will let your boss know that you are there. Drop a casual line like "Hi! I’m ready for work" or even greet a "Good morning" just to let him know that you are there ready to work. And even before logging out try to greet again "All done!" If you want a more professional approach, try sending a daily time report (DTR) consisting of what task you have done, time allotted on every task, and percent of task completion using spreadsheet.

When we say communication, it doesn’t just pertain to the act of communicating. Make sure to have reliable communication equipment like steady internet connection and high-quality audio quality headphones.

Never hesitate to ask questions or clarification, that doesn’t mean you didn’t understand the instruction, but it is one way of eliminating the possibility for error. Clients know a virtual assistant with good communication instincts when you ask questions about the delegated tasks to clear any miscommunication.

When good communication is set priority, look forward to high quality results and good rapport between client and virtual assistants.

PROFESSIONAL APPROACH

It is very essential to be aware of how a virtual assistant presents his or herself. Remember, the virtual assistance industry is the same as the real-world corporate environment. Obviously there’s no need to wear corporate clothes, face-to-face interaction, etc. But the concern is still the same: the client’s business and the virtual assistant’s credibility.

There are definite expectations that should be met like proper business morals, selection of words, quality results and more.

If you don’t have any experience in working in the corporate world, it would be best to observe how business professionals interact and talk to each other. But to give you a specific idea, being a professional usually disregard emotions, having to decide on things should be bases on the company’s sake as a whole.

Moreover, get the job done accomplished under the highest quality work possible. It may sound overwhelming but "quality service" is just synonymous with" professional service." This is just how the professional world works, so get used to it.

EXPERIENCE

Several virtual assistants have excellent educational background to highlight their profile. Seasoned virtual assistants have impressive work history that they could be really proud of. But every one of them starts from difficult then eventually got easy while time passes.

What a virtual assistant beginner could do is to learn the details of the virtual assistance industry. Clear task directions with the client and do research on the nature of the clients business for you to have a better understanding on your mission.

When all's said and done, just remember nobody’s perfect but it is the pursuit of perfection that will make you achieve something of excellent value. As the old saying goes "shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll hit the stars."

In the end, it’s not only the client that will benefit from quality work. Aiming for high quality work will result from higher rate of your service.

Polish communication skills, develop professionalism, gather experience then learn from them. Just remember to pay attention to these important areas and you’re on your way towards becoming a virtual assistant superstar.
