Buying a home is an important decision. New homeowners pay special attention to the features that need to be replaced or updated. The kitchen is one of the most popular rooms of a home to be remodeled. The reasons to replace kitchen countertops range from enhancing the décor of the home to adding much needed counter space.
Older homes often feature paint colors, woodwork, and countertops from long ago eras. What was once the fashion years ago seems terribly outdated now. Color also fades as years pass, and the space that was once the color of black or dark brown may now appear more grayish or tan.
Years of use may be evident by cracked areas, chipped spots, knife marks, and stains from juices, coffee, wine and other foods. Even burn marks deep in the surface from hot pans and cookie sheets may be apparent. Fluctuations of hot and cold temperatures inside and outside the home cause warping of the kitchen countertop.
New counters are recommended if the sink is being replaced with a larger or even same size sink. Replacing appliances such as a new cooktop instead of the old burners on the old counter will need a new countertop to properly fit and support the new cooking unit. Remodeling and completely changing the design of the kitchen will warrant replacement of counter areas especially if additional work space is included in the new design.
Those on a tight income have covered up their damaged countertops by painting the surface. Time and the effects of heat and cold causes this paint to crack and peel which could be dangerous to one’s health especially when cooking meals. Some homeowners may even prefer a certain material for their counters that would be more durable and pleasing to the eye.
A person who has their home on the market to sell will greatly add to the value of their home and the sale price by replacing their countertops. This is especially important if the cabinets and counters do not match. Matching cabinets and a countertop will make the room appear more uniform.
These surfaces can be manufactured from natural stone, granite, marble, quartz, soapstone, and concrete. Synthetic choices include Corian, laminate, and stainless steel. An assortment of colors and textures are available that can be professionally installed in no time at all after the correct measurements are taken. The reasons to replace kitchen countertops will be soon forgotten upon seeing the beauty of the finished product.
