Motorcycle Touring Prince Edward Island
Motorcyclists can find many paths to travel and explore all over Prince Edward Island. The history of the cities, towns and villages literally jumps out at you while touring on the back of a Harley and with a large selection of cottages and hotels along these routes your comfort after a good days ride is assured. For instance, in Charlottetown, you will run into a number of legends and ghost stories. However none is stranger than the tale of the phantom bell ringers, forerunners of death.
Back in the time when sailing ships dominated the ocean waves, a man of Charlottetown was taking a stroll when he heard the church bells begin to toll at an unusual time. He walked to the church and found others who had also heard the bells walking into the church as well. Once inside the crowd of people saw three ghostly women enter the church and go up to the bell tower. The women simply walked through the locked door, however the men had to find the key in order to follow.
When the men got the door unlocked they entered, but the women had vanished leaving no trace. They also couldn't figure out why the bell continued to ring, especially with no one pulling the rope. Later that day the town got word of a shipwreck off the shore. The vessel, Fairy Queen sank en route to Nova Scotia and among the drowned were three women, members of the Charlottetown church where the bells were ringing. In fact, the women were the only ones to drown having been abandoned by the ship's captain and crew, who were subsequently tried for their deaths.
The church with the ghostly bells stands today and is part of the regular touring stops for motorcyclists following the paths laid out by the Prince Edward Island Motorcycle Association. If you're not into ghosts or haunted churches, then how about some motocross racing? Feed your addiction with events sponsored by the PEI Motocross Association. The races cater to all ages and levels of expertise and are seasonal on two island tracks, one located on Duvar Road near Mill River and the other located in Desable. Information can be obtained by doing a simple search on the internet, looking for the Motorcycle Association of PEI.
As well along the way don't forget to stop at one of the many other PEI tourist and travel destinations such as Cavendish Beach, Anne of Green Gables, worlds famous lobster suppers or even a friendly round of golf on one of the world famous PEI Golf Courses.
