High school senior portraits are very timeless. It captures a moment of a lifetime and fresh and reserved sweet memories. Seniors will most likely want to be a star for their final year. Multiple photographs imprinted with stylish categories are the senior vogue. This is a perfect way to show who you are, who you were, and who you will be. Here are ten things that should be considered for a perfect senior portrait session:

  1. Choose flexible colors for your outfit.

You should bring several outfits for your photo sessions in variety of colors. Avoid dominating a single color even if it’s your favorite. Yet, also cross out your favorite white shirt on your list. White tops draw the viewers’ eyes to the lightest object in the picture or the area of greatest contrast. Thus, it drives away the attention from the most important subject which is the model itself. Avoid colors that closely resemble your flesh tones. These won’t work unless set in a light background. Dark colors tend to make people slimmer and brings focus on the face. Prefer solid colors rather than distracting patterns.

  1. Work with varieties.

Bring varieties of clothes so you can take considerable pictures and have your best shots. Think of styles --- formal, casual, outdoors, athletic, name it. Also bring one which will be timeless, would never be outdated in any year. Do not have shirts with statements or pictures on it, except possibly your school logo. The focus must be your face or expression, not your shirt. Most importantly, it won’t screw things up if you’ll have one that will present your very own self such as having books, a musical instrument, a ball, iPod, etc.

  1. Draw attention to your features.

Long sleeves or at least three-quartered sleeves are best. Tops with bare arms compete for the viewer’s attention and tend to give heavy arms; just how "spaghetti straps" would give. Arms may look larger than it already is with short-sleeves since shoulders are nearer to the camera than the face. Neckline should also be considered. V-neck looks best with round and square faces. Thin faces and pointed chins are best with round-neck tops. Turtle neck tops would look best with long neck. For curvy shapes and flattering legs, go for high-waist skirts and pants. Yet, avoid very short skirts for they restrict your poses and movement.

  1. Accessorize appropriately.

Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, hats, sun glasses, and other clothing accessories may come along. But, too much of these will, again, drive away the attention from the subject.

  1. Say goodbye to Neon-colored nail polish

Neon polishes should be avoided for your senior pictures. Again, it distracts the attention from the face. As follows, neon colors are difficult to match and it jars with a lot of outfits. Black and blue nail polishes are even jarring and odd in dark and light images. Rather, choose those less voguish ones.

  1. Make-up normally.

Apply make-up as normally as possible though the thought of photo shoot may be very tempting to glam up. Make yourself look like how you do in your day-to-day basis. One of the problems and easiest to fix concerns mascara. Have a new or newish mascara tube to avoid clumpy and awful appearances on close-up shots. Also have your make-up with you during the photo shoot for cases of re-touches.

  1. Style your hair in your own way.

Let your hair be natural but not to the extent of leaving it uncombed. Avoid experimental hairstyles. Make yourself be remembered the way you were during your senior years. Artificially colored hair is not commendable since it is so timeless and may even let you make fun of yourself after a decade. You must be responsible of your own hair. Bring hair products for cases of touch-ups.

  1. Organize your outfits.

Arrive with your clothes hanged and grouped on hangers with a garment bag over the top. Be sure to iron your clothes to avoid wrinkles. Wrinkle releaser spray products may be brought for touch-ups.

  1. Friends.

Friends are very much welcome. Having someone to look out for you and can make you relax is much okay. That person can also help you with your clothing, touches, and natural poses. But, if this idea distracts you, better have that person wait for the pictures to come out. It is most important to feel comfortable to do poses to let you show yourself in different shots.

  1. Enjoy much!

Be yourself! Feel the best in you. Relax. Your feelings will show in every pose and facial expressions you do. Be sure to plan ahead to make your load lighter and feel less tensed. Also show confidence to every shot you take.

Congratulations, Seniors!
