There are many inspiring ways to create the ideal sanctuary within your bedroom and with the latest trends of retro furnishing; you can get the look without it breaking the bank. All it takes is a few genius ideas and a little thought to the finishing touches.
For those who have seen many of the decorating programmes you will be aware of the feature wall, normally it’s a wall with a bold pattern or block of colour on it. For instance in the bedroom, the feature wall could be behind the bed and the bedding incorporating on the key colours of the wall. It’s not just feature walls that can create impact in the bedroom; bold bedroom furniture can give an instant lift to tired decor.
To create a beautiful retro bedroom which lets the sun shine through and adds a touch of fun to the air, think about display. From the walls to the ornaments placed on the chest of drawers to the window dressings. One of the key aspects to creating a retro twist on a modern bedroom is the bedroom furniture. The main aim with the furniture is to keep it fairly plain but to have the gloss effect which inspires the retro look, you could opt for a white or black gloss, both work equally well and if you budget cannot stretch to buying new bedroom furniture, then there other ways in which you can enhance the look of the furniture you already have.
To create the look of sleek furniture without buying new pieces requires a bit of DIY skill, you can either purchase rolls of gloss laminate to cover the pieces of furniture or if you do not want all gloss, you can just focus on the drawers or doors of wardrobes. If choosing the latter idea, you also need to prepare and attend to the outside of the piece of furniture. A varnish in a walnut tone is ideally suited to compliment a gloss finish, although before applying the varnish you need to sand the wood to remove old varnish.
As the furniture is in gloss, you can go wild with your bedding, for the retro feel, go for bold prints in solid base colours such as red, green or purple and you can also think of these colours on your walls. If you don’t have the budget for new wallpaper, then you can buy paint to cover the walls in one colour and then add bold pictures for colour or if you have an artistic hand, you could add stencils in the colours you have chosen. Remember, try not to leave too much plain, otherwise it will feel clinical and unless you were going for that look, you might find it too sterile and not homely enough.
Creating your perfect bedroom can be done on a budget, by selecting colours to enhance features and be prepared to invest some time and energy into a little DIY when necessary to avoid spending too much. Once completed you can relax and imagine your hard work being featured in a glossy interiors magazine.
