The first part of your home that people see is the exterior. When your house has a clean, well maintained appearance on the outside it conveys a good image especially if you are trying to sell. The siding of your home is a big part of the exterior and should be carefully and regularly maintained. There are many different types of siding and siding materials. Each different type of siding will require a different type of maintenance so it is important to find out what type of siding you have and maintain it properly.
Vinyl siding carries a very low cost so it has become a popular siding option. While popular, it has some negative aspects that should be carefully watched to maintain the look of the siding. Care should be taken around vinyl siding because it can crack fairly easily. It is recommended that things that are thrown (like footballs, baseballs, etc.) should not be used next to a home with vinyl siding. These objects can damage the siding if they strike it. Vinyl siding can lose its color due to the sun so should be painted if necessary.
Wood siding was widely used for a long time before synthetic materials were available for siding. Wood siding is still used on homes that are a little nicer, mostly because it is more expensive and a little more labor intensive to maintain than synthetic or aluminum siding. One advantage that wood siding carries is that it can last a long time if it is taken care of properly. This means regularly painting the siding when it starts to get discolored or chipped off and replacing wood siding slats if the start to rot or mold.
Another type of siding is stucco. Stucco siding is a colored mixture of cement, water, lime, and sand. It is a durable option that is used on many mission and Spanish style homes. Stucco siding is fairly easy to maintain because it is made of durable materials. The stucco siding should be cleaned regularly to avoid the buildup of debris and dirt that may stain the exterior of the home.
Pressure washing your siding once a month will save you from having to spend hours of scrubbing if you let the dirt build up. Having a mindset for preventative siding maintenance will help keep the beauty and value of your siding for years to come. Keep in mind that if you ever decide to sell your home it is so much easier to do so if your home has good curb appeal. Meaning that it is pleasant to look at and therefore people will be more inclined to buy.
Putting siding on your home is a big job that should be done by professionals that know what they are doing. If you are looking for someone to help you with the siding on your home you may want to do some research online to help you find more information on different siding options.
