Mastercam software is one of the most useful programs ever made. Many people may not realize it but many of the things we take for granted were made using Mastercam software in one way or another. This piece of software is one of the most widely used and popular CAD/CAM programs in the world. CAD/CAM stands for Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing. These programs are basically used during the design and manufacturing process of many items that we see around us. These programs can be used to design and create buildings, bridges, cars and even cell phones or furniture.

Mastercam software was created by CNC Software, Inc. This company, which was founded back in 1983, is one of the most long lived software companies that cater to the CAD/CAM market. In fact, they were the first company to design and release CAD/CAM software specifically for use by engineers and machinists. Mastercam software is CNC Software, Inc.'s best selling product that originally started out as a two dimensional computer aided manufacturing system that had certain features that would eventually lead to the creation of computer aided design tools. This program helped countless of engineers and machinists to design parts and pieces digitally. The digital document produced would contain all of the information necessary to manufacture a physical product. This included measurements, dimensions and geometries. Engineers will first have to create items using a computer screen. The data generated could then be used to instruct computer controlled machines regarding how to go about manufacturing the items and products that were designed earlier. These days, Mastercam software is by far the most successful commercially available CAD/CAM software in the market.

Master cam utilizes complex and highly accurate preset toolpaths that can be used to control many factors like advanced multiaxis, surface high speed, engraving, peel mill, face, pocketing, drill and contour. This offers machinists with a very powerful tool that they can use when creating consistent products and items. Mastercam users can also create their own custom presets depending on their needs and purposes.

In addition to all of these features, Mastercam software is also compatible with many industry standard programs related to design and manufacturing. You can use this program with other applications to make the system more versatile and efficient. Third party applications are often referred to as C-hooks.

There are many versions of Mastercam software available and you will have to choose wisely depending on the needs and specifications of your business. You can opt to go with Mastercam Design, which is optimized for the CAD segment of the manufacturing process. Alternatively, you can opt for Mill, Lathe, 5-Axis or Router Mastercam variants. This will all depend on which manufacturing standards you use. The Router variants are very similar to the Mill variants. However, the router variants are primarily designed for use in the woodworking industry whereas the Mill variants are primarily designed for metal and steel working. You can also use a combination of various Mastercam programs should the need for it arise.
