Every webmaster knows by now that SEO plays an important role in your websites ranking in the various search engines. Even by having a perfect on page optimization without doing off page SEO you will be losing most of the benefit. The first part of off page optimization is to ensure that you have some variety with all of your link building, it’s important not to use only one method of link building or use the same exact keywords every time. The reason being is that Google will think of it as spam if they see the same keywords linking to your site and it will not look natural as if another webmaster actually added the link to yours.

One good example of this would be to one week you would write two articles that are focusing on the same topics but when you use the links in your resource box you would vary the anchor texts up a bit so instead of using "dog beds" as the anchor texts in both articles the other article would be "dog bedding" linking to your website. This gives the inbound links to your site a little more and will also help improve other keyword rankings for your website.

Another important aspect of using different methods is to change up the type of inbound links that you are receiving instead of focusing strictly on article directory backlinks as an example you could try to get some links via press release sites, social bookmarking sites or even from a community forums all using some variation in the anchor texts. Now although some variety in your anchor texts is good but do not over do it and use 100% unique anchor texts as this will make it very hard to rank for any one of them. Instead come up with a list of maybe 10-12 different anchor texts that you wish to rank for and rotate them every time you plan to do link building for your website.

You should also ensure that when you are coming up with a list of anchor texts you should remember which part of your site these should link to... you do not want to use an anchor text for an inner page of your site that has no relevance because Google will factor this in when ranking you for that keyword. One easy way to check this is by looking at the page you are targeting and doing a keyword density check even if it’s not an exact match but you have at least one of the words that do match. You could even go to that page and edit the content to ensure that the keywords on page are relevant to the anchor texts you choose off page.
