Many people do not know that their rechargeable battery, as it gets older, and doesn't hold charge as well as it used to, can be given a new life. It is possible to learn how to recondition old batteries. Its an easy process to undertake and can save you a lot of money over time.
Reconditioning a battery has nothing to do with recharging it. Rather it refers to a process that will restore the battery back to the state it was in when it was new, and enable it to hold more charge, and renew its usefulness once again.
There are many methods that you can use to help your batteries to regain their youthful performance once more. Some will involve tools that you can buy, or in some instances make, but one of the simplest suitable for some lap top style batteries, is to simply make sure they fully discharge and then to freeze them in a deep freeze before recharging them once more.
If you want to try this freezer method first you have to discharge the battery as fully as possible. You can do this by booting up the laptop and putting it onto its settings screen, often achieved by pressing delete or similar (it will tell you on screen). Now you simply leave the computer with its setup screen running and don't touch it until it switches off on its own, when the battery runs out of charge. This method will remove as much of the charge as possible as it bypasses any power-saving function the computer may have. Now simply place the battery in the deep freeze overnight before recharging. You will notice the increased performance but you may have to do it up to three times for the best effect.
This is just one of the many methods you will find to recondition old batteries. Always remember many batteries contain hazardous chemicals and you should always remember to follow prescribed safety procedures when carrying out this kind of process.
