Christian Dior was born on January 21, 1905 in Granville, France, where he spent his childhood. Christian's mother, Madeleine Martin, was the one who showed the little Dior the ways of the bourgeois world, full of elegance and refinement.
A year after the birth of Christian, the family acquired the house where he would live his childhood and adolescence, there he would learn the first details about the decor. Christian's mother took care of the house decoration, they had an elegant house with beautiful furniture and a lovely garden, and she shared with young Dior decorative tastes and activities.
Over time, the young man was taking a particular interest in old attire style, the proper dress and elegant parties. When deciding where to pursue his studies, Christian decided to enter the Institute of Political Sciences in Paris, influenced by his family who wished for him a career in diplomacy
Young Christian Dior showed a strong orientation towards the arts, painting, music and drawing, passion he shared with his friend Jacques Bonjeau. Bonjeau, who was a promoter of art. Along with Dior they opened a gallery showing the work of talented young artists. Later, the gallery grew and prestigious artists such as Miro and Dali exposed their work there.
The 1930 crisis forced the Dior family to sell some of their property, including the house "Les Rhumbs"; a year later Christian's mother died. These two events marked the life of Christian, who began living with his friends. These circumstances led him to a relentlessly pursue the recreation throughout his life of the home "Les Rhumbs".
The fashion world opened for Dior through his drawing skills. From 1935 through 1942 the young man worked for the newspaper Le Figaro, making sketches. Little by little, began to create his own style, then he began showing his designs at different fashion houses in France.
The house Piuguet hired him, but unfortunately his career was interrupted by the outbreak of the war, and until the year 1941 he was able to create the most prestigious fashion house of the moment, the Lucien Lelong in Paris.
Dior worked with Pierre Balmain, with the idea of opening a house together. But in the year of 1945 Balmain opened his own studio, leaving Dior behind as chief designer of the house Lelong.
In 1946, the textile magnate Marcel Boussac, give Dior his support to build his own brand. Then the first Dior house was installed in a Louis XVI-style building on the Avenue Montaigne.
The first collection for Christian Dior was released in February 1947, forever changing the world of fashion and creating a real revolution. From that moment, everything was successful for Dior.

Between the years 1953 and 1956, Dior acquired more properties on the Avenue Montaigne, creating the largest, luxurious and glamorous Boutique in Paris. That Boutique hosted 22 collections, all released and signed by Dior, from 1947 to 1957.
In 1955 Dior welcomed a talented young designer Yves Saint Laurent, who quickly became the favorite apprentice of Christian.
Public exposure caused him great stress, which likely contributed to his early death, he was only 52 years. Dior was a victim of cardiac arrest on October 24, 1957 while on a vacation home. Some argue that the heart attack was triggered by a very intense sex session.
After Dior's death, Boussac evaluated the possibility of closing the house, believing that couldn't continue without the hand, taste, talent and ingenuity of Christian. But his financial manager, convinced him the company was solid and that the young Yves Saint Laurent could take over.
Then in the spring of 1958 Dior house presented the first collection created by the young Yves Saint Laurent with great success. From that year until the 60', Yves took over the brand, then Marc Bohan took the reins until 89', Gian Franco Ferre subsequently took the post up to 96' and from that year until today the brand is led by the talented John Galliano Dior.
