Apple has undoubtedly scored big time with its portable media player. Not since Sony released the Walkman has a portable device captured a market and has been made as the benchmark for all succeeding products in its market. Finding its lineage to the now defunct branding known as iPod mini, the iPod Nano has released five generations of this sleek and stylish multi-format player and one of its 4th gen players is the Apple iPod Nano MB598.

The Apple Nano MB598 comes in silver and has a memory capacity of eight gigabytes. Other colours in its line-up include light blue, purple, black, yellow, green, orange, pink, and red. There are nine colour options and Apple calls this colour scheme as "nano-chromatic".

Released in September 9, 2008, at the Let’s Rock event by Apple, the Apple iPod Nano MB598 was a bit of a surprise as it featured a new design that differed so much from the previous model. Well, actually, it reverted back to the old design that was featured from its first and second generation models, but incorporated new lines that made it look sleeker and sexier. It’s now relatively thinner, and sports smooth curving edges which makes it easier to handles and avoids more scratches. While it’s reminiscent of its 1st and 2nd generation in form, it retained the rotating screen from the previous model which was two inches or 51 millimetres in size, significantly, the glass screen is held in place by its shell, giving it a more distinct look from the previous generations. Its whole body measures 3.57 inches or 90.7 millimetres in height, is 1.52 inches or 38.7 millimetres wide, and is only .24 inches or 6.2 millimetres thick. It also comes very lightweight weighing only 36.8 grams or 1.30 ounces. Unfortunately though, apple has reported a slight decrease in battery life lowering it to only 4 hours of video playback capability as compared to its previous model which allowed for five hours. For music playback though, the Apple iPod Nano MB598 has the capability of playing audio files for twenty four hours continuously.

And the best thing about its casing is that Apple has made it to be highly recyclable. With our landfills being filled up each year with tons and tons of outdated electronic gadgets like handheld phones, laptops, monitors and of course, portable multimedia players, the Apple MB598, lauded as the most environmentally friendly iPod Apple ever made, is a breath of fresh air as it can be re-used to produce other materials when replaced. The unit contains arsenic-free glass, and its design is free from Mercury, BFR, and PVC as well.

Another cool technology that can be found on the Apple iPod Nano MB598 is its capability to shuffle songs just by shaking the unit. This is also because of its built-in accelerometer. If you don’t like the song that’s being played, you only need to shake it again to shuffle once more. This feature can only be used when you disengage the hold switch, this is a good idea so that any unintentional movement won’t disrupt or change a song you’re playing.
