A no kill humane organization in Connecticut is SPCA. It requires the help of the public. This is the very great challenge for them. The operating expenditure is more and is ever increasing and this has forced them to stay back and also cut their expenses. The donations from the public are accepted to maintain the facilities and also to give the same kind of care that is being given for the past eleven years. Their mission is to take out the pets from the shelters that are not maintaining the pets properly and to look for the good homes is now becoming very danger.
There are about 6 - 8 million pets that enter adoption shelters each year, and 3 - 4 million of them are euthanized, or killed. Adoption shelters don't have any maximum time limit that they hold an animal before euthanizing it; however it is based on the adoptability of the animal and the space available to house the animal. In that time, their main goal is to keep the animal healthy and adoptable. The best way to prevent so many unnecessary deaths at adoption shelters is to spay or neuter your pets. It is also important that all pets have current identification tags on them, in case they get lost.
Some are "no kill" shelters. They are limited in the number of animals that they can house and take care of, but they don't believe in the euthanasia of healthy pets. Instead, they will take care of as many animals as they can, but often aren't able to take new pets because of space limitations.
Many pet adoption agencies are working over time to find a positive solution for America's dog over-population issue. These agencies work hard to find adoptable pets so they can be provided with loving and caring family homes.
Many agencies have websites where potential pet parents are able to search for possible pet candidates without having to go to the noisy and chaotic locales. On these websites, people are able to search for their preferred dog (or cat) breed, age, sex, size and even the specific organizations where the pet originally came from.
The fixed expenses like mortgage, medication, food, utilities and veterinary care are in the increasing way and the medical expenses have quadrupled in the past 6 months. They are still continuing to insure all the pets and do spaying or neutering and also need to give surgeries for saving the life of the animals from tumors, broken bones and heartworm disease. The schedule for the next big adoption is not done due to the severe financial crisis.
