If you feel that your bathroom is outdated, you're not alone. The majority of Americans wish they could update their bathroom, but feel powerless to do so without spending a lot of money on a total renovation. Even in tough economic times, families have found an innovative way to change the whole look of their bathrooms by adding new fixtures.
How One Small Item From A Plumbing Supply Makes A Big Change In The Bathroom
Many homeowners scoff at the idea of changing out the fixtures because it seems so simple and small. At first glance, it does seem to provide limited benefit. But most homeowners find that once they have actually completed the process, the new hardware makes their entire bathroom look more modern and up to date. In the same way, a simple change of hardware on cabinets can provide a complete update. Adding a coat of paint may help as well to complement the changed plumbing supply parts.
Choosing Your New Plumbing Fixtures
Companies will often have a showroom that you can visit. In this showroom, mock bathrooms will be set up to highlight all the different plumbing supplies that company can offer. The trick in a showroom is to focus yourself on the actual hardware rather than being dazzled by the overall appearance of the space. Bring along measurements of your bathroom when you shop so that you don't lose sight of what will look good in your particular space.
Managing The Installation
Depending on the type of plumbing fixtures, you may be able to do the entire installation yourself. A new showerhead is quite simple. Just unscrew the old one, wrap the base with plumber's tape, and then screw the new one into place. If you are working with another type of hardware, the process will be a bit more difficult.
If you are replacing a faucet, ensure that you have the correct tools. You should have at least two pipe wrenches for handing the actual plumbing, as well as basin wrenches for tightening nuts and other items that you don't want marred by the pipe wrench. If you have any doubts about the required tools, ask at the plumbing supply showroom. If you don't have the right tools, find someone to do the job for you. It shouldn't be terribly difficult to find a qualified handyman, and the job should not take long. If you find that you must solder any part of the faucet, then you should ensure that the job is done by a professional.
Installing New Sink Faucets
It is relatively rare to see a very complex installation for a sink. In most cases, you will simply be able to coat the holes in the current vanity with plumber's putty, drop the new faucet into place, and connect it. The faucet should be ready for use immediately. Once it has been tested, remove any excess putty and ensure a neat cosmetic appearance. New sink faucet plumbing fixtures can have a big impact on your bathroom. For extra effect, try refinishing your vanity or replacing it with a thrift store find.
Add Finishing Touches
Once you have completed the installations, you are ready to accessorize your newly refurbished bathroom. Coordinate your new accessories with the plumbing supplies you chose, ensuring that the entire look will be pulled together and thoroughly modern.
