Beautiful
Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The canal-district is now on the UNESCO list and rightly so. The old buildings surrounding the canals make it look like an open-air museum. With its nice parks, calming water there are also many options for those who want to kick back and relax outside.
Easygoing
Amsterdam is one of the most laid back, easygoing cities you will ever see. Though it seems everyone is in a hurry, the people are friendly, the waiters and store personnel are relaxed… promised!
Compact
The city is nice and small... everything is within reach by foot or bike, so there's no need to use lots of crowded trams or taxis. You get the real Amsterdam experience while on the street, not when you're packed like sardines in a -expensive!- tram.
No language barrier
No worries if you don't speak Dutch. Basically everyone speaks English so there's no need to stumble over the local lingo.
Culture city
Amsterdam offers world-class museums and ballet- and classical performances among the best in the world. Also: great festivals from renowned documentary festival IDFA to the classical Prinsengrachtconcert to a great selection of yearly music festivals.
Fun, fun, fun
A night on the town won't be boring as you may have heard. Old brown cafes, trendy bars and clubs… though the city does actually sleep, it happens not often. The area around the red light district is known as tourist central.
Go west
Or south... just don't stick to the very center of town. It's overrun by tourists and though the centre is a must see for sure, there are lots of other cool areas in town. Go for stylish shopping or the trendiest of bars to fun hip hoods like Oud-West, de Pijp or the cozy Jordaan.
Food frenzy
Ok, so the Dutch fries with mayo may not be the first thing that comes to mind when haute cuisine is mentioned, but Amsterdam offers everything from Michelin star restaurants to cozy eetcafes for a steak-frites. And a huge offering of tasty ethnic food, especially the Indonesian kitchen is not to be missed! Other typical Dutch 'voedsel' are the kroket, herring and stamppot for dinner.
Heineken
Indeed, the coolest beer in the world is from Amsterdam. Where else? Have one for yourself, cheers! A tour in the old factory building is also on the menu.
Shop till you drop
Amsterdam has the best selection of shops in the entire country. From the tres chique and expensive PC Hooftstraat to the main shopping street Kalverstraat, there's enough retail therapy to last a lifetime.
With over 750.000 inhabitants, Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and last year more than 4.5 million tourists came over. Famous for its nightlife, relaxed atmosphere and historic environment, the city combines urban life with fresh nature in the form a many parks. Would you like to work in the best city of Holland?
