There are a ton of easy worship songs that a beginner guitar player could learn in a short amount of time. Learning worship songs on guitar is one of the best ways to learn how to play guitar, even if you've never picked the thing up before. In fact, that's how I learned to play, and now I play guitar for a living and have for most of my life.

As a thirteen-year-old, I started in the high school youth group. I was into rock and metal at the time and had a crappy electric guitar that I used to try to play Metallica songs using tabs. I was only moderately successful in doing so and never really learned any full songs and certainly didn't learn how to really play the guitar, certainly not in a way where I could just pick up the guitar and play from start to finish.

Well, that's when the youth pastor asked me if I would be willing to play worship songs on guitar for the whole youth group. I said Yes but didn't really have any idea where to start. I didn't REALLY know how to play guitar. So, I did what any guy in my position would do; I looked for very easy worship songs. Never mind what songs were popular at the time or which songs I even liked. I went straight for the easy worship songs.

So, that's exactly what I did. I started playing worship songs on guitar, easy ones first, and over a short period of time, I learned how to play guitar. I learned to play full songs, one at a time. I became what I wanted to be-a guitar player-by playing worship songs on guitar, easy worship songs.

A good place to start is simply by checking into a handful of songs and seeing which ones have easy chords. Here is a short list of a few songs that fit into that category:

  1. Center

This is great song-one of Charlie Hall's best, I think. And it only has three chords in the whole song. This would be a great one to start with. And it's not a really old worship song either; it's relatively current.

  1. Holiness

This one is a bit older, but it's also a good song and is a classic. Like Center, this song only has three chords in it.

  1. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

This is another one that's a little bit on the older side, but it's one that everybody should be familiar with and is a classic. And, again, it's only got four chords.

  1. Meet With Me

This is another really great, classic, song. I've been playing this song forever, but I still like it and still play it. It's a great song to start a worship set with, if you ever have a chance to lead worship for a group.

  1. How He Loves

This is still one of my favorite songs. It's only a couple years old, and better yet, it has only four chords. And those four chords repeat the same way over and over throughout the whole song.

Hopefully this list of easy songs helps out. Playing worship songs on guitar can be a great way to learn and a great way to worship at home.
