When renting a car comparison is definitely your best friend. Finding a resource which allows you to search for quotes in seconds is a definite plus. Getting a spread of quotes also allows you to get a feel of the ‘going rate’, if you will, seeing what cars are an offer and how any features (such as sat nav) will affect the cost.
When renting car it is important to determine what you need it for and for how long. If 2 people simply want to rent a car for business travel then hiring a people carrier is an obvious way to waste money!
However, there are more subtle ways you can save cash when renting a car if you know where to look. For example, if you have your own sat nav bring it along instead of hiring a car with it installed or even paying high prices for daily rental. If you already carry car insurance check your policy, you may find that you do not need to purchase additional insurance as you’re already adequately covered. This is a great money earner for car rental companies as quite often the actual car rental margins are low, so the ‘need’ for additional insurance is sometimes over imposed. Just remember most sales people can put a great spin on anything. The bottom line is if you don’t need it don’t get it and always check you insurance policy first.
Above all make sure everything you require is included in the quotation you’re provided and that there are no hidden charges. Most car hire websites will state from the outset if the quote you get is fully inclusive. There’s nothing worse than finding a ‘bargain’ rental only to have another £20 a day slapped on in hidden extras. This is why it’s also important not to be guided on price alone. Be savvy. If one quote is a little more, check why, you may find it’ll save you in the long run.
Renting a car is often quite exciting whether it’s for work or recreation. You can drive a newer car than usual and often get behind the wheel of some pretty cool cars! As long as you bear these few tips in mind you can not only make sure you only pay for what you need but you’re on the track to a hassle free rental. Happy motoring!
