Let's face it. You've worked hard for everything you've ever had and it's

time to treat yourself to a bit of luxury. When you strike out on the streets

of Houston or Big-D, walk in style with alligator boots. These are like a

Mercedes Benz, when you compare them with cowhide boots. Cowhide is durable,

sure, but if you want to make a statement of your style, invest some bucks in

exotic gator boots and you'll enjoy the picture you make.

Alligator boots are stylish, but only if you buy American, genuine leather.

There are boots made from Caiman leather available - and these are cheaper,

but they don't have the same look as gator boots and they won't wear as long,

either.

The leather found on the belly of the American alligator is the most prized

for boots, since it is pliable and soft. The leather you get from the back of

a gator is called hornback alligator. The bony areas on caiman gators are

found on both the stomach and the back, and this makes the leather less

flexible and more prone to cracking and splitting. So, Caiman leather is

cheaper, but it doesn't have the soft and long-wearing good looks of real

alligator leather. Select only the best alligator boots from reputable

dealers, such as www.USGator.com.

Alligator boots are made from leather that is among the most durable and

beautiful available, and you'll want to be sure to care for your gator boots

properly. Otherwise, they may lose that expensive look, which is why you

bought them. Using leather conditioners specifically made for alligator will

help keep your boots looking new. Use proper conditioners to help replenish

the oils that occur naturally in alligator boots and make them better able to

deal with stains and water.

Store your gator boots in a cool and dry place when you're not wearing them.

If they happen to get wet, wipe off all the water you can with a soft cloth

and let them dry slowly and naturally, away from sunlight. If you're home,

turn them over every two to four hours so that they will dry more evenly.

After they are fully dry, use special conditioners made for alligator

leather. Then condition them again after a few more days. Conditioner should

be used at least once a month, so that your boots will remain supple, without

drying and cracking.

Don't use any other cleaning products on your gator boots, other than those

especially made for alligator leather. The most classic finish of alligator

leather is very fragile when exposed to cleaners not made for them. Don't be

tempted to use conditioners made for other types of leather, either. Take

proper care and your gator boots will last a long time.
