Solar energy is energy that is produced by the sun. For millions of years, many organisms have been using solar energy. Every year, month, day, hour, minute, and even second, the sun produces colossal amounts of energy. In a single hour, the amount of solar energy that falls on the earth’s surface is greater that the amount of energy the earth consumes in a whole year. With all this free energy at our disposal, it would be a crime to let it all go to waste. There are many advantages to using solar energy. Below are a few of them:
Solar energy is renewable energy. Unlike fossil fuels, solar energy will never be at a risk of running out. So long as the sun shines on earth, we will have solar energy. Fossil fuels on the other hand are mined from deposits in the earth that were formed over millions of years. While these deposits may be immense, they are generally mined at a faster rate than they are replenished. Also, among renewable energy sources, solar energy also stands out as it generates power noiselessly.
Solar energy is environmentally friendly. Solar energy does not contribute to the depletion of earth’s natural resources nor does it destroy the environment. Fossil fuels produce greenhouse gases and other gases that are detrimental to the environment. Emissions from fossil fuels contribute to global warming. Solar energy on the other hand has no harmful by-products.
Solar energy is relatively cheap. A solar system is a very profitable investment in the long-run. While you will incur the initial cost of buying the system, the solar system will quickly pay for itself. A solar system will drastically reduce or completely eliminate your electricity bills. After you break even, you will enjoy great returns (in the form of savings from your electricity bills). Additionally, you can sell the extra energy that your system produces. Also, solar panels are usually durable and will require practically no maintenance.
There are always new improvements on solar energy technology. Today, there are many different solar systems. Solar systems range in size, shape and cost and therefore you are guaranteed to find one that is perfect for your house and even one that is capable of powering your business.
Smaller solar panels have also been created to power up smaller devices. There are solar powered calculators, solar powered lights and even solar aircraft. Also, these days you will be able to find solar chargers that are specifically designed to charge your laptop battery, iphone battery, regular AA/AAA batteries, and even your car battery. These solar powered chargers are not only helpful around the house, but they are also valuable for when you are travelling and have no access to a power grid.
