Can CCTV security systems run on a power back up?
Your CCTV system can run on a UPS system (an uninterrupted power supply system).
Cameras can also be run on a battery back up.
In the event of power failures, your UPS will power up the CCTV DVR system or your PC that is running the CCTV software.
The batteries will give the cameras up to four days of power.
How much CCTV footage can you store on the CCTV system?
It depends on the amount of cameras and the size of the hard drive, that determines the amount of footage that can be stored on the hard drive.
If your are running up to four cameras, on a 500 GB hard drive, you will get anything from three to four weeks of footage.
How do you store CCTV camera footage?
Do you need to forward through all the footage to find particular incidents?
A DVR allows for selective viewing by prompting the given date and time.
This alleviates micro searching for certain activities on the CCTV system.
Black and white or colour CCTV monitor?
Black and white is a little more economical and it is sufficient for home use and soft surveillance.
Colour CCTV will prove a lot more helpful in the event of criminal prosecution.
Can CCTV cameras be hidden?
Hidden or disguised CCTV cameras are called covert cameras and can be disguised as alarm passives or smoke detectors, just to name a few.
Covert cameras are usually used to monitor areas in private investigations or stop theft suspicions.
Different CCTV Security Systems
There are various different options on CCTV systems.
Your CCTV can be run through a PC and dedicated PC which has the CCTV software downloaded onto it.
Or you could use a digital video recorder (which is an embedded recorder) which will record all your footage.
The system can run anything from one camera up to four cameras on a basic DVT system.
Then you can go from four up to eight, eight to sixteen, to thirty two, etc.
