On the scale of products used for structural development, steel is considered much better quality to alternative forms of building materials. The reason for that is that it is far more able to resist high force winds, snow and natural disasters like storms and hurricanes.
Steel buildings' original existence was from the British army and was later used by American forces during WW2. Steel buildings were then called Quonset huts. The name originated from the name of an area on Rhode Island called Quonset point where steel was first manufactured.
Steel buildings were originally developed by the British army and later put to use by the American forces during the World War 2. These types of buildings were referred to as Quonset huts. The name comes from the site of first manufacture, Quonset point in Rhode Island.
With the duration of the war the steel buildings were used as barracks, hospitals and ammunition storage facilities. Early steel consisted of galvanized steel on corrugated metal. After the war the buildings were sold to the general civilians for $1000 each. Even today the buildings are used for warehouses, outposts and sometimes for residential purposes. In the cold areas steel buildings are used as homes. With enough thermal protection, electrical wiring and interior these buildings can be perfect for a family. It is also cheaper to produce than a wooden or brick house. There are many other advantages steel houses have over wooden or brick houses. They are resistant to termites and insects; they are very strong and easy to assemble.
In 2004 a Hurricane measuring 4 on the scale and called Charley hit Florida. Most of the buildings were either ripped apart or badly damaged except the steel buildings. Only a few had minor damage to them. This had been due to the natural aerodynamics in the design of these buildings. The structure was designed to let the wind flow over the surface and thereby creating a downward force that stabilized it. What also helped was the use of steel beams and pillars; it anchored the structure firmly to the ground. This was found to be true following studies carried out by the United States National Hurricane Center.
Whether your steel building is for industrial or residential purposes, the construction of Steel Structures are truly one of the sturdiest, most reliable methods of building around.
