Draught proofing sash windows is one of the best things you can do to reduce your heating bill. London has millions of sash windows, many with gaps that let the chill flow in while your money flows out. Over a period of years this could add up to a substantial amount, and compared to that, the moderate expense of draught proofing is well worth it.
Silver Saints is a London-based handyman company offering a full range of home maintenance and repair services, including draft proofing sash windows. By using Silver Saints, customers can avoid the bother of calling multiple repair people and get all their home needs taken care of by one multi-skilled professional. Silver Saints can provide plumbing, electrical, fitting, fixing, hanging and assembling services, with set prices for specific jobs and no surprise charges. Their handymen are skilled in all of these areas, and since they use motorcycles to navigate the traffic, they always arrive on time.
When addressing a sash window draft, your Silver Saint handyman will perform a complete dismantling, repair and reassembling job. Step one will be to remove the lower sash and cut a groove in the surface that closes against the upper sash. A high-performance brush-pile seal is then installed in this groove. While the lower sash is out, your handyman will use this opportunity to remove the two parting beads, the strips that come into direct contact with the sashes, and replace them with new ones that also have brush-pile seals. With this, your sash window draught is eliminated. The last step is fitting rubber seals to the top and bottom rails and replacing the sash cords if necessary, after which the window is reassembled. The result is a well-sealed, rattle-free window.
That's how the process should go, but in many cases, disassembling the window reveals rotting inside. This used to mean that the entire window would have to be replaced, but now there is an alternative. Silver Saints is now working with a highly-experienced firm that does a full restoration treatment on sash windows and French doors, adding years to their life. The process involves scraping off the old paint, removing any rotten timber and treating the remaining good timber to prevent further decay. The window is then rebuilt using sections of new wood and a wood-like. The final part of the process is the redecorating of the window.
Silver Saints covers all postcodes within zones 1 and 2 of the London underground map and some of the postcodes in zone 3. They take bookings on weekdays from 8:00 to 18:30, with a Saturday service from 9:30 to 17:00 at a slightly higher rate. Their earliest arrival time is 8:30 on weekdays and 9:30 on Saturdays. Their latest time is 17:30 on weekdays and 17:00 on Saturday, and quitting time for all handymen is 18:30. They do understand that some people work long hours and may find it difficult to be available during the day, so they will do their best to accomodate all orders. While Silver Saints can sometimes come on the same day you call, the more typical wait is two or three days.
Do you have a sash window draft? At SilverSaints, we employ the most experienced handymen in London, all undertake plumbing, electics, fixing, fitting and draft proofing sash windows.
