Bike riding is a fun activity given proper safety measures are observed when you are on the road. There are several safety accessories and riding gear that are useful for safety purposes.

These include protective clothing and other accessories which provide shielding to the rider. Some of these accessories include:

Motorbike Helmets: It is vital to choose helmets that are of perfect quality and size. The helmet should be full faced so it gives protection from head to chin. It should also have close fitting shields and snug padding around the bottom to minimize wind noise.

Some bike helmets come with breath deflectors at the top of the chin bar to prevent fogging of the visor. The best helmet ventilation system incorporates air ducts in the Styrofoam safety liner to pull hot air away from your scalp and prevent nausea due to overheating.

Eye Goggles: Protective eye gear like goggles or sun glasses can protect the eyes from dust, insects or other flying debris. It is vital to have goggles on especially if your motorcycle helmets visor is half faced or the visor is pulled down. Eye protection is also crucial during windy conditions.

Riding Jackets- Riding jackets are made from either leather or synthetic materials. They offer protection to the upper body in case of an accident. Jackets are also helpful during windy or rainy weather.

Normal leather can offer safety only up to a certain level. For maximum protection especially for constant riders, you should opt for leather jackets made with Kevlar and padded sufficiently at the joints with carbon fibre.

Motorcycle Gloves: Gloves help a rider to have a perfect grip on the handlebars while riding. They are made with different materials but leather is the preferred choice.

You should have different sets of gloves depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

You may also acquire weather proof gloves which offer greatest protection and can be used during any weather.

Riding Boots- Riding boots are important for shielding the legs and ankles up to the knees when riding. For maximum leg protection, the boots can be worn with jeans, leather pants or denims.

Additional protective gear when riding may come in the form of chaps, back protection, elbow and knee pads and shoulder pads.

These are not absolutely necessary for occasional bikers and are usually utilised by professional and sports riders.

All the same, any rider should take the necessary steps to ensure safety on the road. This involves safe riding techniques coupled with the necessary protective gear.
