CCTV stands for closed circuit television. The rise of CCTV camera use over the last decade has been substantial. Now it is not uncommon to see cameras or the signs indicating there are cameras present in all public buildings and offices as well as on the street. There are a large number of benefits of using CCTV cameras which this article covers. They are a very useful security asset and can be a big help in the fight against crime.
First and foremost cameras act as a brilliant deterrent. Anyone considering committing a crime is very likely to think again once they see a camera is present because they know they will be filmed. Cameras produce high quality images and people's faces can easily be seen on security tapes. Because of this it is much more dangerous and risky committing a crime because the likelihood of getting caught is so much greater. With the help of CCTV footage, a large number of people who commit crimes are caught. They are so effective in the capacity of a deterrent that it is even possible to purchase dummy cameras that look real but in fact are just replicas. These are by far the cheapest type of camera equipment to buy! The problem with them is of course that if someone decides to break in regardless of the camera, there is little that can be done about it and no footage available to help catch them!
Even in the home there has been a big rise in the use of CCTV camera equipment. Many people chose to have a camera pointing to their front door so that if the door bell rings they can see who is standing there. This is particularly useful for elderly people living alone who may be nervous to open the door to anyone. Video door entry systems can even allow identification to be displayed before the door needs to be opened. The technology is very advanced these days, and now it is usual for the television to be used as the display screen for the film. In the past a separate monitor needed to be used but this is not the case anymore. This has helped bring the cost right down.
It is possible to access the footage from a remote location too so when you are away on holiday you can quickly check on the house to see if everything is in order. If you notice anything wrong you can alert someone - the police, a neighbor or a security firm who can investigate further. Many people choose CCTV cameras because there is nothing better on the market for security. Burglar alarms and other motion sensors work to a degree, but they don't really act as a deterrent because any sort of response by the police or an outside security firm takes too much time.
For workplaces and offices, CCTV is a good way of securing the building overnight. There could be valuable equipment present that otherwise could be a target for thieves. CCTV cameras can be pointed in many different places at once as opposed to a security guard who only has one pair of eyes.
There is no doubt that CCTV security cameras are the best way to secure a building whether it's the home or place of work. They work as an effective deterrent and they are useful in the event a crime has been committed because they provide detailed footage of the event. There is much more chance of getting your belongings back in the event of a burglary if there is CCTV footage available. If you want that peace of mind, a CCTV kit will provide all the security you need. With remote access control available too, you can check in wherever in the world you are.
