A gas boiler is a useful home appliance that is powered by either natural gas or propane gas. It is used to heat rooms and make hot water available in bathrooms and taps. It comes with a lot of valves and controls and an electric pump that distributes water uniformly along the pipes.
Gas boiler repair should not be done casually and nor should it be done by an amateur. The repercussions could be drastic, it could cause serious injuries and some of which could lead to death. The first thing you should check before doing business with an energy supplier is whether they have adequate insurance coverage or not. There is one chance in a million that you will become a victim because of a faulty gas service and you have to protect yourself from such chances. Only qualified engineers should carry out repair and maintenance. There are many instances where amateurs did these repairs or people without full knowledge of gas boiler repair and some people had to pay with their life.
Prompt repair and regular maintenance of boilers is very important; an overlooked gas leak could cause fatalities. Inhaling gas can be dangerous, so when in doubt call your maintenance personnel and get a thorough boiler check up done.
Here are some things you should do when you suspect a gas leak and you are waiting for the gas service engineer to come:
1 Find out all the sources of flame ignition and extinguish them immediately
2 Turn off the gas supply when in doubt
3 Ventilate the rooms and doors of the building in which you are staying
4 Unless you are sure that there is proper ventilation, do not operate any lights.
If you have a gas boiler that heats poorly it could be because of an improper water level in the pipes or because there is mineral deposits in the boiler and heat exchange.
Before buying a gas boiler from a company, check out their sales, service and maintenance records. There might be other people whom you know who have purchased this kind of boiler. Talk to them to see if they were satisfied with the company and their subsequent service. Here is a checklist of the services your gas boiler company should perform on a regular basis.
1 Proper ventilation is required for your gas boiler. The company should ensure that there is sufficient ventilation for your gas boiler to operate.
2 The maintenance people should remove and clean the burner to prevent the residue from hampering the performance of the boiler.
3 The maintenance people should check the electrical connections.
4 The maintenance people should check the whole configuration for any indications of either a water or gas leak
5 The maintenance people should check and adjust the gas pressure of the boiler.
6 The maintenance people should use a flue gas analyzer to check the flue gas.
7 The maintenance people should minutely examine the thermostats for any cracks or malfunctioning.
Even if you don’t encounter any problems with your gas boiler, it would be good idea to call up a gas service company and have it checked annually to prevent any mishaps. Conduct gas safety inspections regularly, so that you can be sure that all is working fine with your boiler. Don’t try to repair it yourself even if you have watched engineers working at it before. Some people make the mistake of not waiting for qualified professionals from the gas service to turn up and carryout repairs; instead, they do it themselves and there are often dire consequences.
Gas boiler repair should not be done casually and nor should it be done by an amateur but only qualified gas service engineers.
