Hello again, I'm George Tiganus and I'm back with a new article, this time about improving your site's rank with search engines such as Google. This is where the traffic is and if you are able to get high on the search engines for some keyword phrases people are targeting, you're going to get a lot of traffic and that is going to help you in your business and make you money regardless of the business you are promoting.

Traffic is profit!

Let me tell you about a thing called SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and you have to make your websites SEO friendly in order to get them to rank high on Google. Your website's rank depends on a lot of factors, and we will discuss some of the basic ones so that you understand how they work and how you can turn them to your advantage.

You must be wondering what is the most influential of those factors on your Google Rankings, and if you asked me, I would clearly say BACKLINKING.

What the heck is backlinking, right?

Well, let's first think about the search engines like some machines that constantly keep analyzing data of all the websites that are out there.

This is actually what search engines do. They look at the content of websites and rank them by relevance of that content to the website's keywords. But there's much more than just the information you have on your website's pages. For every subject you can imagine, including the one your website is about, there could be thousands or millions of other sites.

One of the things which show Google that a website is relevant is the number of incoming links it has. These links can make the difference between two sites with comparable content because the one which has more of them will be regarded as more useful to internet users.

These are called, incoming links, inbound links or backlinks and they refer people from other sites to yours. The more quality your website has, the more backlinks you are supposed to get.

A backlink is recognized by Google as a recommendation so, naturally, they consider them important in establishing page ranks.

For example, I'm sure you've found Wikipedia in the top of Google results for a lot of the searches you've performed. They are ranked so high for a reason! 75,000,000 domain backlinks!!! (I know it is insane, but it's TRUE!)

Now that we know how important backlinks are, we should be talking about how to get them, right?

There are some means to achieve that, and amongst those are the following:

  • reciprocated links - finding a site to link to and have it link back to yours

  • forum signature links - forums allow signatures for posts and signatures can include links

  • commenting on blogs - go to high ranked blogs and add a link to your comment

  • links from article directories, video sharing websites and other content-based websites

Naturally, the more such backlinks your site has,the higher it will be ranked on search engines. But pay attention, this doesn't mean you should buy some automatic tool and just get 1000 backlinks per day. Bulding up backlinks at an unnaturally high rate or speed is suspect and Google has a very low tolerance of spam, going to such lengths as penalizing or even banning websites!
