You might hear his name throughout the red carpets. From shoes to hand bags, women and men clothing, haute couture to over the shelf blouses, this men design them all with his elegant trademark. No wonder he is dubbed as emperor of extravagance by many.
Roberto Cavalli started his career in 1965 when he was 21 years old, painting T-shirts with a girl he knew from art school. Then he set up a factory to do the printing, with a few young men, then by accident in the early 1970’s he began to paint on skin which was the first time anyone had done it. The girls who summered at Capri and St. Tropez adored it. Italian Vogue took notice of his works.
In 1999 the opening of a store on Madison Avenue, in New York, whipped up great momentum. All the New York girls started wearing Women’s Ed Hardy Jeans. Hot girls in hot places identified with the high glam sensibility of Cavalli’s clothes. His clothes were worn by the stars of TV’s hot serial "Sex and the City".
Besides the main line, which is sold in over fifty countries worldwide, Roberto Cavalli designs RC Menswear as well as the youth aimed line Just Cavalli, launched in 1998 and comprising today men’s wear, women’s wear and accessories, eyewear, watches, perfumes, underwear and beachwear. There is also the Angels & Devils Children Collection, the Class line, two underwear collections, shoes, eyewear, watches and perfumes.
In June 2010, to celebrate 40 years in the world of fashion, Roberto Cavalli has announced the launch of a new logo. The new corporate logo is a gold-coloured 40, with an interlocking R and two Cs in the centre of the zero. The word "anniversary" appears along the bottom of the zero. The heraldic RC logo is set inside the number zero, which represents perfection. The digits making up the symbol create another emblem rich in meaning for Roberto Cavalli - that of Venus, who in mythology represents Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love. She celebrates Roberto Cavalli's love of women and all the passion that this designer has dedicated to the in 40 years, enhancing their femininity and sensuality.
