In Fall and Winter, heating bills can get pretty high. While it can be tempting to install a huge central heating system or splurge on lots heaters (or even jumpers!) you can also take measures to cut heating costs in your home. Here are some simple but effective ways you can cut costs and heat your home.
If most of your time is spent in a couple of rooms in your house then only heating those rooms instead of your whole house makes sense. Heating an entire house is expensive and it can be hard to keep track of where the heat goes if you have to monitor a large number of rooms.
If you don't already, contract the majority of your daily life to a few rooms within the house. Doing so can significantly reduce the amount of heat needed in those areas, and you will save money in the process. Areas you could heat during the day are the kitchen, office and living area as they are the most well-used at this time while in the evening you can switch the heating the sleeping areas.
By having a small heater in each room instead of one large heating system you can to switch them on and off as needed to make sure you don't waste energy.
Insulation is good common sense and should be integrated into every new house being built. The right insulation keeps your house cool in summer and warm in winter. Like wearing a jumper when you go outside in the cold, insulation keeps the warm air you generate inside your home rather than allowing it to radiate out from uninsulated walls, ceiling or floors.
If you choose to spend money on one time insulation you save money year after year, spending less money, month after month, on heating and cooling your home.
If you are not ready for the cost of insulation you can do small things inside your home like putting warm rugs on floors and heavy curtains over large windows, trapping the warm air from escaping and stopping cool air from seeping in.
Taking small steps in your home can make a huge difference to your heating bill and also reduce the strain on the environment.
