Top Ten Holiday Gifts for Yoga Lovers

Let’s face it. The more people get into yoga, the less they care about "things." Following the Yamas, or moral codes of the eight-fold path to inner peace, means contemplating Aparigraha, the idea that you should limit your possessions to only those that are necessary or important.
So what should gift-giving people do during the holiday season? Why not try one of these yogi-friendly ideas?
Look for eco-friendly
-
A stylish, re-usable bag in a bold pattern. Bonus: bags from Envirosax are washable too. (Do you know how germy grocery carts are?)
-
A sturdy, refillable water bottle that doesn’t leak for easy toting to the yoga studio. Gaiam has a nice selection.
-
Natural skin care products, especially body oils, which are a big part of Ayurvedic skin care. I like the Rose Hips Organic Body Oil from Naya Organics.
Do something from your heart
-
Make a "gift certificate" for a homemade vegetarian feast, a weekend of pet sitting or a date for tea.
-
Treat their tired muscles to Padme Bath Salts, created by a massage therapist.
-
Anything with an OM symbol on it. Ditto Ganesh or Buddha. Satya Jewelry makes beautiful pieces.
Support their yoga practice
-
Namapsray® Yoga Mat Cleaner to de-funkify their yoga mat. Natural essential oils take the stink out, an especially good thing for "hot" yoga practitioners. (Bikram or CorePower, for example.)
-
A blank journal for recording observations gleaned from yoga retreats is sure to please. Etsy.com offers hand-made books from the serious to the silly.
-
A candle for meditation. Bonus: Magic Fairy Candles sells hand-poured candles that, when burned, melt to create body oil for a massage or moisturizer.
-
And because yoga makes you pay serious attention to your feet—quality, non-toxic nail polish for pedicures. Priti is the one of the best eco-friendly brands out there. Priti (rhymes with pretty) also means love in Sanskrit.
Naturally, you may encounter some yogis who take Aparigraha seriously. If that’s the case, know that it’s not a personal judgment against you, and making a donation to a favorite charity in their name would be perfectly appropriate.
