The iPhone 4 is one of a product designed and marketed by Apple Inc. which brings the company, the users and the world into a new dimension. There have been four generations of iPhone. The very first model of the iPhone is called iPhone. The first iPhone was released to the market in mid of 2007. The second generation is called iPhone 3G (released in mid of 2008), follow by iPhone 3GS (released in mid of 2009) and the current iPhone 4 (released in mid of 2010).
The iPhone is not a normal basic mobile phone that you can only call and receiving a call but it is a smartphone. This meaning that iPhone is a combination of basic phone, Internet and multimedia-enabled smartphone including camera, text messaging, visual voicemail, portable media player, WIFI connection, and an Internet client with email, web browsing and many more.
One of the most important selling points and dominant feature of the iPhone 4 is the Retina capacitive touch screen. This Retina screen is the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution of 640 x 960 at 326 ppi with scratch-resistant glass phone screen ever. The capacitive touch screen is designed for a bare finger, or multiple fingers for multi-touch sensing. The touch and gesture features of the iPhone given not only sensitivity but the most precision finger touch input. It gives the users feeling like the iPhone is so intelligent which the iPhone knows when you want to switching/swiping between the pages only and when you want to open an application (apps).
I believe that most of you know that one of the iPhone 4 impressive capabilities is the "pinching" gesture. It zoom in and out of web pages and photos which is done by placing two fingers on the screen and spreading them farther apart or bringing them closer together. Secondly, the accuracy of text input through touching the virtual keyboard will surprise you as well. The other touch sensing feature that impressed me a lot is the Chinese characters writing. Imagine that by using a bare finger only and write a Chinese character on top of the screen, the iPhone will recognize what you wrote and give you three other alternative characters for you to choose. The accuracy meets 99%.
As described above, the iPhone 4 is a smartphone but I would like to call it a "Super Gadget". Why? It is because with the availability of the network connection, the iPhone is a phone, netbook, notebook, electronic book, pocket dictionary, multi-languages’ translator, map, scientific calculator, organizer, engineering tools, portable game console, GPS device, portable media player and much more (you name it, the iPhone 4 got it). For example, it will become my netbook when there is a network connection. It is my map, GPS, compass and multi-languages’ translator when traveling. It is my game console and media player when I get bored. It is my personal Bible which I carry it, and read it everyday and everywhere. It is even my "savior" on my engineering stuffs like leveling equipments, engineering unit converter, scientific calculator, engineering formulas etc. Guess what, I never get bored, lost and never bring along multi gadgets for traveling, and go shopping with my wife. What I need is just to bring along this light and handy iPhone 4.
Of course, the stock iPhone 4 itself is incomplete as a "Super Gadget" but thanks to the App store with more than 200,000 apps (application), the iPhone 4 will deem to be perfect. You can either log-on to the iTunes account through the iPhone or personal computer. Thus, the good thing about the iPhone 4 is that you can get the apps wherever and whenever you want. For example, assuming you are traveling and need to drive in Bangkok, Thailand but you don’t know the way. So, just log-on to the App store and purchase the GPS navigation app and bingo, your iPhone 4 is now a GPS navigator now. Well, the apps are varying in prices and some of the apps are even free of charge. Believe it or not, some of the free of charge apps can be very useful as well.
Last but not least, as an owner of Apple iPhone 4 myself; I strongly believe that it is an excellent smartphone ever. With one single normal smartphone price and you will get all the stuffs. So, why bother to buy additional PSP, GPS navigator, scientific calculator, MP3 player, pocket dictionary, pocket Bible, and etc. The iPhone case & accessories are very cool too. You can change all kind of iPhone cases to suit your moods, different occasion and usage. So, I definitely will stick with Apple iPhone and will continue to support it with my next and future mobile phones.
Best regards,
Kit Chong
