Let me tell you a little bit about clip in blinds. We do Perfect Fit Clip In blinds – now there are 2 types that you can get shaped or rectangular. The shaped ones are only for the roof though.

You may well have already heard of perfect fit blinds, they have been around for 5 years or so now and have been for side windows only these are the most common and they are all rectangular. However Louvolite, the people who pioneered this system, over the couple of years developed the shaped variety, which make the blind suitable for conservatory roofs also.

Now it is worth spending a little bit more time explaining the clips, as there are 2 types. The first is a recess clip and this version has 2 little legs on it that act as stop for the blind when it is pushed home. These clips are usually used in a recess fit situation. Let me explain, normally if you have an Edwardian shaped conservatory the stanchions holding the roof up are quite deep – this is where we fit the blind between the stanchions and we use this type of clip.

On other conservatories that have shallow stanchions and then we fit the blind over the joists. The joists themselves act as the stop and here we use the normal face fit clip.

Okay, so we have covered some of the restrictions when using this type of blind. Another problem could be the width though. There are 2 major manufacturers of the pleated material they are Louvolite and Eclipse. They make this material up to 2 metres wide so if you have a window wider than that you may have a problem.

So back to the blind, once it is in place we adjust it by attaching the rod to the clip at the movable end of the blind. The rod twists to lock in position and then it will support its own weight. However once the blinds are in place they are only drawn 3 or 4 times a year we find.

Why would someone want blinds? Well there are a few major reasons – too hot and bright in the summer and too cold in the winter. These blinds, with the right fabric solve all those problems!

On the back of the material there is silver coating, which reflects and absorbs the heat in summer. Similarly in winter the costing helps keep heat in and the fact that blind itself is totally enclosed means that you trap pockets of air in the roof that insulates the conservatory to a degree.
