Bad credit auto lenders are easy to work with if you know want they want to approve your loan. Many car buyers tend to go into the process blind and are typically met with frustration and disappointment. Go prepared, get approved, buy your car, fund your new loan and show off your new vehicle.
Types of Lenders
There are bad credit auto lenders for any and all credit types. Multiple repossessions, foreclosures, bankruptcies and on and on. Don't worry about how bad your credit is, because there is a lender out there for you.
In addition, credit score very rarely plays a role in their decisions, so a 720 credit score is the same as a 420 credit score in their decision process.
What Makes Them Say Yes
As mentioned, credit score is usually a non-factor in their decisions, but a few things they do consider are your...
-
Ability to repay the loan. Do you work? Are the payments manageable with your income? Do you have a ton of other debt that may make it hard for you to make your monthly payments?
-
Stability on the job and at your residence. The more stability the better! A 10 year job with a 10 year residence is much better than 3 jobs in the last year in 3 different states.
-
Past credit history. They are not looking at your past credit history to necessarily turn your deal down, but to determine what type of approval you qualify for. The more challenges you have had in the past or present, the shorter your term, the higher your rate and possibly more money down you will need in order to put your deal together.
What They Need to Fund
The approval is the easy part, but the deal is not done once they have said yes. Your loan needs to fund before the deal is done. This part is not very difficult, but can cause you to have to make multiple trips to the dealership if you are not prepared up front.
You will need to prove what is on your credit application and these are the most common things they will ask for:
-
Proof of income. Bring your most recent pay stub (within the last 30 days), W2's and bank statements if self-employed, or social security award letters and/or bank statements if retired.
-
Proof of residence. Bring a utility bill with your name and physical address on it. Be sure this is a current bill within the last 30 days as well. If the utilities are in another persons name, then a bank statement or cell phone bill mailed to the residence will usually work.
-
5 References. These can be friends or family, but be sure to have name, physical address and phone number for each. Husband and wife at the same address only count as one, so be sure each address is unique. Also PO Boxes do not fly, they want to know where they live.
-
Full coverage insurance. You must have full coverage insurance with your new lender shown as the Loss Payee before your auto loan will fund. Be sure to check insurance rates before you sign up to buy your car. Not checking rates ahead of time has come back to bite many more than one customer.
-
Complete phone bill. Yes, complete. They want all pages including the phone numbers of everyone you call. If you disappear, expect them to call everyone on the bill to try and find you.
Working with bad credit auto lenders is easy and now that you know what it takes, you will probably have a harder time picking out the perfect car than getting approved.
