This guide was written to provide information on the differences between The Snuggie and The Slanket and will hopefully help you decide if the product is right for you - and if so which one should you get.
Since they exploded on the retail scene, the Snuggies and Slankets have been huge bestsellers and have made ideal Christmas gifts. Some pretty unforgettable TV Advertising (especially for The Snuggie) also ensured that the products gained cult status.
The Snuggie and The Slanket on first inspection look pretty much identical. Both products are basically a 'wearable blanket', or to put it another way, a comfortable TV blanket with sleeves.
The addition of sleeves os the key selling factor - the sleeves are designed to enable freedom of movement so when you are snuggled up in the blanket you can still use your arms to hold drinks, read a book, use the remote control etc...all without needing to remove your blanket and let the cold in.
So, if both products do the same thing, then what is the difference? We have collected the Pros and Cons of both products below in order to explain the key differences and help you in deciding which is best for you.
Lets start with The Slanket:
THE SLANKET:
Overview: The Slanket is the more expensive than the Snuggie, but you arguably get more for your money
Pros:
*The Slanket is the more expensive than the Snuggie, but you arguably get more for your money. The Slanket is huge, at 152.4cm (Width) x 241.3cm (Long) it will easily cover the tallest of people with plenty of material spare to completely cover your feet.
*The Slanket is made from 100% polyester fleece, and Non-pilling fabric which means it is completely machine washable and stands up well to repeated washing.
*The Slanket is made from much thicker material than the Snuggie, and in our experience collects a lot less static
*The Slanket now comes in a wide range of colours and designs - from plain to animal print, so there is a Slanket somewhereout there to suit most tastes
Cons
*More Expensive
*Can still suffer from static when taking it off
THE SNUGGIE:
The Snuggie is a cheaper and more lightweight option.
Pros:
*Cheap, Snuggies can be picked up at a fraction of the price of The Slanket
*Lightweight and take up much less room if you need to pack it in a bag and take it away with you or want to use it as a travel blanket on a long flight
*Ironic and kitsch value due to the 'unique' (i.e. bad) advertising
Cons:
*Smaller than the Slanket, Snuggies measure approximately 71" x 54"
*Thinner than The Slanket - the Snuggie is made from Micro fibre midweight polyester and feels very thin when compared to the thicket and softer feel of The Slanket
*Very prone to static
*Weaker and won't stand up to many washes
SUMMARY:
So in summary, if you are serious about luxury, comfort, warmth, and expect to get a lot of usage out of your blanket then we would strongly advise that you go for The Slanket.
But, if you are on a strict budget or just looking for a novelty gift, then the Snuggie could be a good alternative. The Snuggie is also a good option if you just want a lightweight TV blanket and don't care too much about getting the best heat out of it.
