Technology has no boundary, but it has limitation. This statement holds true and the fact that laptop battery— under the constraint of rigorous wear and tear— exhibits a high degree of discomfort and cumbersome disorders. This, in itself, proves what technology ‘can’ and ‘cannot’ do. But, the growing number of laptop users obviously speaks volume of the popularity of laptops in the last decade. On the flipside, long hour use of laptop computers produces noticeable effects on the longevity of laptop battery resulting out of overheating of the equipment.
Although laptop accessories manufacturers continue to produce high-end ‘low voltage’ components to reduce overheating in laptops, it continues to reign as a leading cause of discomfort and disadvantage of laptop battery among users worldwide.
A noisy fan and quick heat conducting system are the identifiable conditions of an overheated laptop. Once these conditions set in, streams of hot air vents are released and this is simultaneously followed by a significantly slowed down system processing. Although it is quite a normal circumstance for users to feel irate and annoyed with crawling speed of laptops during heat-up spree, the process speed is intently slow down in order to control further damage of the hardware. Apparently, the hardware of mobile computing device namely, the processor and the hard drive bear the brunt of an overheated system.
With due course of time, an overheated laptop runs the risk of a shortened life span, and it also gives rise to frequent bout of system crashes. In addition, the devastation is understood to be of highest order amongst laptop batteries with lithium-ion chemistry. Hence, lithium ion based notebook batteries face similar fate when exposed to extreme overheating, and it may also result in total destruction of laptop capacity. The fact that most laptops have a single temperature-sensitive cooling fan exacerbates the conditions of laptop batteries with underlying tendency of getting overheated.
One of the most common or likely causes of overheating in laptops that has failed to attract the attention of users is dust. Irrespective of whether one uses the laptop within home premise or at other outdoor location, dusts are lodged in the hollow compartments, edges and corners or at places which are difficult to reach or clean.
Thus, the best practice is to store laptops in bags or carrying cases when not in use, this in turn will help users prevent dust from entering into the air vents. In rare cases, extremely heated up laptop batteries are potentially capable of causing burns and catching fire or exploding. Erroneous or mishandling of laptop accounts for the maximum known damages caused by overheating. Inadvertent blockage of air vents during use is a major reason to worry, therefore one must take care and use laptop on flat surface to allow the fan to circulate cool air into the unit and expel hot air from the internal circuits.
