In the online business world there are many ways to really make a good income. One of the best ways is by ranking well in Google for many keyterms within a certain niche. This will usually take a long time to do and you will have to work on the ranking of each term individually. If you are persistent then you will see results and after you begin seeing results you will notice what I like to call the SEO Snowball. For example you really work hard ranking well for the term "paid to read email" and as you climb the SERPs by building backlinks you notice that you are ranking well for other terms as well such as get paid to read email, paid to read, and paying emails. You are amazed because you really didn’t work very hard on these terms, but you are ranking well. This is Google deciding what your website is about and looking at the authority of your backlinks then ranking you. It is not always necessary to build links for the exact terms you want to rank well for, but you should still have a good amount of key terms you are building links for rather than just one.

When you start out building links towards your presence pick one single term such as "make money blog". Build links using article directories, general directories, and other free backlink sources. Be sure to always link to your website or blog with the single term until you begin ranking well "within the top 50". You should also be ranking in the top 10 when you do an inanchor:"" search. If you want to do an in anchor search go to Google and type in: inanchor:"key term" and hit enter. This search is for finding the websites with the highest amount of links for that term. This search will also show you your direct competition which is the competition that is building links for the exact term you are. If you are in the top ten for the term it is time to move onto another term and begin building links. For example if you are in the top then when you type into Google: inanchor:"make money blog" then start building links for the terms "make money", "make money free", "earn money blog", "earn money free", and all the rest.

Sometimes webmasters do not know what terms are best when they want to build links. If you would like to know the average monthly search volume of a term head over to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool which you can find by doing a search. This tool will allow you to find the monthly search volume of a term. You may want to go after a huge term "100,000 monthly searches or more", but if it is your first term this may not be such a good idea. When I do SEO consults I usually instruct my clients to attack terms that have under 20,000 monthly searchers. These terms are much easier to rank well for compared to more competitive terms and you will see results from your work much quicker.
