Bathrooms are definitely one of the hardest rooms in the house to light properly. Because task lighting is necessary as well as ambient lighting, baths and showers are more relaxing it can be difficult to know how to get it right. There is nothing worse than a bathroom that is too dark to see properly. This is the room where makeup gets applied and books are read in the bath. That means bright lights are essential. There is also nothing worse than having a bathroom with bright lights that make you feel like you are on a football pitch!
Many bathrooms in houses built over the last few decades have a central ceiling light and not much else. This is far from ideal and represents a wasted opportunity. There are a large number of contemporary and funky bathroom lights available. If you want a quick overhaul of your bathroom lighting then one way to do this is to replace the central bathroom light with a few downlighters or spot lights. These look good in any interior scheme and provide sufficient light for a bathroom.
Another possibility is fixing wall lights around the room. These come in a variety of styles from modern and contemporary to traditional and casual. Whether it is a Moroccan style bathroom you have or the latest in design and technology there are wall lights available to blend in well. Wall lights are good because they can be placed right the way around the room and this provides better light coverage than one single hanging light in the centre. Don't forget that the high humidity levels in the room mean that speciality bathroom wall lights must always be used.
Mirrors in the bathroom are extremely important and just as vital is good lighting around them. It is possible to have lights shining from above the mirror or from the sides. Just make sure that whatever you choose doesn't create shadows across your face when you look in the mirror. This can make shaving or applying makeup quite difficult to do because you won't have a clear view. It is also possible to buy shaving mirrors that are illuminated. These work brilliantly and can be attached to the wall so they can just be used when needed. This is quite a popular option and many people choose these kinds of lights in their bathrooms.
If you want to provide a luxurious "spa" feeling in your bathroom then having lights on dimmer switches is the best idea. This means you can adjust the lighting to the exact level you want it every time. If you are hurriedly getting showered and dressed in the morning then you will want as much light as possible. If however you want to have a relaxing bath after a hard day at work then you are going to want some soft lighting. Having an additional reading light over the bath is a good idea so you can read a book even when the rest of the light is atmospheric.
Because of the specialist nature of bathroom lighting it is extremely important that you find an electrician to help with the wiring. Although some people like to try doing these jobs themselves it can often end up costing more in the long run if something goes wrong. Fiddling with electrics when you don't know exactly what you are doing can be very dangerous so make sure plenty of care is taken.
Bathroom lights are important if you want to create the right look and feel in your home. There are a lot of different options when it comes to bathroom lighting and you need to make sure you get it just right. There is also led lighting available that can keep your bills down and many other types of lighting too.
