The answer to this question is very simple; keyword density means how many times a keyword or keyword phrase appears in your content including every word of it. It means that the title, headlines or another alt text are taken into consideration.
The calculation of your keyword density
This jargon term is often used in SEO and it is very important to know how keyword density on your web page can be calculated. To cope with this task it is enough to count the amount of a keyword in each hundred of words in the content. To explain it more satisfactorily, let us resort to a demonstrable example: your key phrase "UK link popularity development" can be found two times per 100 words of your content it means that the percentage is 2. Let’s take another example you have a 500 word content and keyword "UK SEO" that appears with frequency of 5 times on your page, that means that very key phrase density is 1%. To calculate this density you should first take the frequency of your keyword which is 5, then divide this number into the total number of words which is 500 and finally multiply the result of the latter expression by 100%. As you can see the calculation is more than simple.
Relevant word distribution
Yet if you have a content of 500 words it doesn’t mean that you should use only one keyword within every 100 words to have the percentage of 1. This kind of special and relevant word distribution can be different. For example the last paragraphs of your content can contain all five key words of phrases while the first and the middle ones are lacking them. And this distribution is ok.
High keyword density and its consequences
Imagine you stuffed your 450 word content with keyword "UK SEO" 12 times or more and happy that the keyword density is high. However this web page has chances to be regarded as spamming and ignored by many search engines for example such as Google. The explanation is simple: Google is marked by limited calculation of keywords and doesn’t allow a keyword to appear a large number of times on a web page.
How much should keyword density be?
As every search engine has its own process of keyword calculation you should know which one is more important for you. If you orientate towards MSN or Yahoo promoting your site then 5% density is ok however if your target is Google then 5% keyword density can turn your webpage into a spam. Here you should think about 1% or even less. However watering down keyword density is not a very palatable option: only one keyword found in every thousand words can significantly scale down your website chances to be figured at the top of the search engine results.
As you can see it is impossible to shape perfectly the idea about the best keyword density. The border of it is such a fuzzy image; however you’d better follow the given suggestions and focus on interesting and factful contents.
